The Environmental Manager (EM) is responsible for the environmental functions at the Amazon sites MTY1, MTY2, MTY3, and MTY9 in Apodaca, Ciénega de Flores and Escobedo, Nuevo León. The EM develops internal systems, standards and policies to comply with environmental regulatory requirements and provides guidance and training for operations, facilities, transportation, and maintenance teams.
The EM proactively implements mechanisms to continuously improve environmental performance; establishes systems, monitors progress and guides multi-functional teams in the implementation of Amazon’s environmental and sustainability standards. The EM will work with internal and external partners that include government entities, contractors, consultants, construction, operations and other key stakeholders
Key job responsibilities
Waste Management
-Ensure the Waste and Donations Module (WADM Module) is properly followed up across all sites.
-Ensure correct execution of Hazardous Waste Cage and Product Awaiting Determination (PAD) Area Inspections.
-Ensure the annual external Hazardous Waste Management Training for Waste Coordinators (WC) and Site Environmental Coordinators (SEC).
-Ensure Waste Training Records are properly followed up.
-Ensure logbooks of hazardous and non-hazardous waste records are registered and maintained.
-Ensure hazardous waste storage areas are placed according to environmental legal requirements.
-Lead, coordinate, and supervise the activities of waste coordinators and assigned environmental functions at the sites.
-When required, occasionally process and handle hazardous and non-hazardous waste containers that may weigh up to a maximum of 20 kg.
Ops Engagement
-Attend and lead Daily Dive Deep meetings and Environmental Gemba Board reviews.
-Conduct daily Environmental Dashboard and key environmental metrics reviews.
-Develop and drive Mx Newsletter Engagement and monthly environmental topics.
-Partner with Procurement, Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) and Transportation Operations Management (TOM) departments regarding waste management and spill response.
-Provide environmental office hours as needed to support operations teams.
-Train, guide, and motivate internal teams so they understand how their daily work affects regulatory compliance, the environment, and the communities in which Amazon operates, and conduct themselves as responsible environmental stewards.
-Foster an environmentally responsible culture within the organization.
Environmental Inspections
-Ensure development of Stormwater Inspections.
-Conduct Trailer Yard Spill Kit Materials Audits.
-Lead Annual Policy Standard Operating Procedures implementation checklist reviews.
-Ensure development of Hazardous Waste, Non-Hazardous Waste, and Green Army Inspections.
-Ensure development of Spill Kits, environmental critical devices, and power generator inspections.
-Support and conduct internal environmental walkthroughs to verify site conditions and waste coordinator performance for continuous improvement.
Environmental Compliance
-Lead environmental projects and field execution, including oversight of contractors and consultants.
-Ensure Annual Reports are submitted on time.
-Complete RETC Annual Chemical Reporting where applicable.
-Manage, record-keep, and oversee federal, state, and local regulations, as well as other Amazon relevant environmental documentation, ensuring permits renewal (Federal, State, and Municipal)
-Follow up on environmental annual fees for permits as needed.
-Manage and oversee local, state, and federal environmental regulations as well as Amazon policies.
-Lead the sites in interactions with environmental regulatory agencies, permit evaluation and processing, and the introduction of new processes and technologies.
-Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with government agencies and throughout the company.
-Submit time-critical reports to various government agencies.
-Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports and develop appropriate corrective actions.
-Lead spill clean-ups and emergency response activities.
General
-Generate new ideas and methods for solving recurring problems and encourage associates to innovate and continuously improve.
-Enforce Amazon standards and policies and use tools and mechanisms to drive their adoption.
-Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently.
-Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately.
-Ensure that work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards.
-Develop environmental systems, implement and monitor performance using leading indicators.
-On-field presence to support the correct implementation of the Environmental Management System.
