Key job responsibilities
- Guide technical strategy and architecture decisions for distributed systems that serve tens of millions of transactions weekly, ensuring scalability, resilience, and low-latency performance
- Build and mentor a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and psychological safety where team members can contribute their best work
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including product, operations, and business teams to align on priorities, communicate technical trade-offs, and drive solutions that enhance the customer experience
- Own operational excellence and reliability, including on-call support, incident response, and the implementation of systems and processes that maintain service quality
- Drive innovation initiatives that simplify the checkout process, reduce operational costs, and remove barriers to purchase completion for customers

A day in the life
As a Software Development Manager, you'll spend your time balancing strategic leadership with hands-on technical collaboration. You might begin your day reviewing system performance metrics and discussing architectural decisions with your team, then transition into cross-functional meetings with product, operations, and business stakeholders to align on priorities. You'll mentor engineers through complex technical challenges, conduct code reviews to maintain quality standards, and participate in on-call rotations to support our follow-the-sun operational model. Throughout the week, you'll work with teams across time zones to troubleshoot production issues, plan feature releases, and identify opportunities to simplify the checkout experience for customers.
