Amazon
Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.
Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
As a Sr. Power DVT (Design Verification Test) Engineer on the Amazon LEO avionics team, you will own the complete design verification lifecycle for power electronics systems destined for Low Earth Orbit. You will bridge design intent and flight-ready hardware by developing comprehensive test strategies, executing rigorous validation campaigns, and driving cross-functional collaboration across power design, SI/PI, FPGA, firmware, and system integration teams. Your technical leadership will ensure our satellite power systems meet stringent space-grade requirements while mentoring junior engineers and establishing scalable test methodologies that accelerate our mission to deliver global broadband connectivity.
Key job responsibilities
Design Verification Planning
- Develop comprehensive Design Verification Plans (DVPs) in collaboration with power design engineers, SI/PI engineers, and system integration teams.
- Apply Design for Testability (DFT) principles during design reviews, ensuring test point accessibility, boundary scan implementation, and built-in self-test capabilities.
- Focus on design verification from subsystem testing through functional testing and system performance validation.
Test Development & Execution
- Develop test methodologies and fixtures as needed.
- Develop and maintain test scripts in collaboration with design and firmware engineers.
- Use software simulation tools to model circuits and systems, analyze performance, identify failure modes, and optimize designs.
- Ensure proper test execution, data collection, review, and system requirement verification.
- Own and manage comprehensive test procedures and execute system and board-level test plans.
Technical Problem-Solving
- Troubleshoot and propose viable fixes when faced with electrical failures.
- Develop practical, cost-effective solutions that address root causes and prevent future occurrences.
- Maintain requirements traceability during testing and solve integration and test problems in real time.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Train, mentor, and provide technical support to junior engineers during DVT execution, actively unblocking technical challenges and accelerating their development through hands-on guidance.
- Lead small groups of DVT engineers across multiple designs.
- Participate in reviews with cross-functional teams and management about test readiness and DVT results.
- Conduct test readiness reviews and align with stakeholders on data review activities.
- Coordinate between engineering, test lab, technicians, and schedule testing resources.
Data Analysis & Documentation
- Collect test data, perform data analysis, and document results.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to coordinate testing activities and analyze results.
A day in the life
You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and work with multiple technical teams at Amazon LEO in different locations. As a member of the Power Design Verification Test Team, you will develop hardware tests and test automation for verification of various avionics systems. This cross-functional role requires constant interaction with multiple HW/SW design teams and end-users.
