Description

At Amazon, we're working to be the most Customer-centric company on earth. One customer experience that we’re constantly looking to take to a new level is how we fulfill and deliver their orders. Our goal is to exceed the expectations of all our customers by ensuring that their orders, no matter how large or small are delivered where and when they need them, as quickly, accurately, and cost effectively as possible. To meet this goal, Amazon is continually striving to innovate and provide best in class service levels through the introduction of pioneering new products and services in the last mile delivery space. Come join the team and help us make history!
The EU AMZL Fleet Planning, Analytics (FPA) operates within Global Fleet & Products (GFP), and is responsible for the EU AMZL fleet requirement definition to source Armada/Rentals, short-term deployment scheduling, business intelligence and analytics support, with the North Star to scale fleet capacity efficiently. By Peak 2023, EU AMZL will achieve a fleet size of 46K vans (Armada 70%, Rental 30%), +13% YoY, [2021-23] CAGR +24%, with a Supply Over Demand of 1.1K/3%, -7.7K/-2,750bps YoY and a FY utilization growth target of +400bps YoY.
The Fleet Demand planners within FPA team, are comparable to other companies’ “Demand Planner” profiles, but facing the peculiar challenges to integrate upstream planning cycles, e.g. from SCOT/Top Line to LTP/TL disaggregation, from MRP to DA Labour Plan (LPT) and DSP diversification planning, to create demand plans for diesel (ICE), Electric Vehicles (EV), Long/Short Wheel Base (LWB/SWB) vans requirements across Europe for long (+3y) and medium term (<12m) planning, and driving the resulting order plans and work with Finance, OEM business development, Rental procurement to ensure plans are executed effectively and efficiently.
We are searching for a talented Principal Product Manager to enable the success of EU GFP program within the high-growth, fast-paced Amazon Logistics organization. The role will be responsible for defining the fleet requirements of new business customers to EU GFP (SWA, DSP Lite, and others as of OP2 2024) for EU AMZL and for driving the related vehicle procurement and supply chain downstream decisions (OEM, upfitting, scheduling, transportation), impacting hundreds of $ millions in CAPEX/OPEX; by doing it, they will be ultimately responsible for building the right capacity to deliver peak demand whilst ensuring target fleet utilization is achieved and cost optimized.
The successful candidate will determine demand for EU AMZL fleet by leveraging statistical modelling, machine learning pipelines, deterministic python based algorithms and the integration with key partner organizations (Finance, Network Planning, DSP Planning, Product Development, Electrification, Modes Of Transport, Sustainability, Legal). She/he will be required to monitor and identify important changes in upstream forecasts assumptions and business strategies, with a view to streamline the overall planning and decision cycle and to achieve the optimal trade-off between cost and Service Partners experience.
The role will own the re-engineering of the current automated forecasting model, Fleet Requirement Planning [FRP], to: (1) integrate new Amazon organization van requirements (e.g. SWA/DSP Lite); (2) move from a deterministic to probability-based modelling; (2) introduce optimization models with objective function being the operational costs; (3) evolve the UI of FRP from excel based to a more friendly dashboard; (4) integrate new supply channels and netting logics within the model (e.g. van sharing, off-season vans, vehicle multi use etc.) to drive the related sourcing accordingly; (5) integrate seamless both upstream (LTP) and downstream (approvals) processes.

Last but not least, (6) supporting effectively critical business decisions (Capex/Opex, rental/lease/cross country transfer, vehicle type mix, asset utilization etc.) based on risk assessment and long term constraints visibility will be key for the success of the program. For this purpose She/he will develop a “digital twin” of the FRP models where to perform “what if analysis”, multiple planning scenarios and investment analysis to define “alternative” demand and supply plans, in collaboration with Finance and other Stakeholder teams.

Key job responsibilities
• Design and develop scalable Fleet demand modelling;
• Integrate closely with finance business partners to ensure plans are efficient and meet Peak demand, to ensure efficient ordering process
• Define and own Fleet Demand forecasting accuracy metric
• Be accountable for the timely “buy in” from VP/Senior Stakeholder about the significant Fleet CAPEX investment and OPEX decisions;
• Consolidate input from a different set of stakeholders and ensure fleet plans always consume the latest available assumptions;
• Drive the transition to electrification (EV planning Business As Usual) and integration of MoT into Fleet Requirement Planning;
• Extend FRP process to new business customer organization (SWA, DSP Lite) and countries to be launched over the next years;
