The Lab Test Engineer role is responsible for keeping aerospace environmental test production running smoothly. You will troubleshoot issues that technicians encounter during daily testing, resolving problems with test setup, equipment, and IT infrastructure. The Lab Test Engineer will be an expert for our various Automated Test Equipment (Test Racks) used during environmental testing. With your expertise in environmental testing procedures, equipment, and basic Python scripting, you will identify root causes and implement corrective actions to maximize productivity and product quality. Additionally, you are responsible for production support activities including ticket management, change management, monitoring, metrics, documentation, process development, host provisioning, and hardware management. You may also debug, evaluate, and resolve software issues for applications and services that will improve availability and performance. You will develop scripts and applications to automate redundant tasks and to improve operational efficiency. You will work cross-functionally with Development, QA, and other Support teams to maintain and improve availability and performance of Amazon LEO's production Automated Test Equipment.

Key job responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot and improve test automation hardware supporting production testing
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical or software problems on the fly, working with an integrated cross-functional team of manufacturing engineers, test engineers, lab technicians and maintenance teams to resolve
- Perform RCCA of issues in production testing and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Develop and maintain calibration procedures for RF test equipment
- Define and implement solutions to optimize and automate environmental testing
- Work with other engineers to refine test requirements and the methodologies to achieve those requirements
- Willing to “roll up sleeves and do what needs to be done” in a small, specialized, team environment
- Must be willing to work off shifts and weekends as required



A day in the life
The primary goal of this role is to ensure all automated production test racks remain fully operational, properly calibrated, and ready for use by production technicians. Daily responsibilities include planning and coordinating preventive maintenance with schedulers, organizing and tracking all rack calibration activities, and maintaining accurate documentation and hardware configuration data in partnership with supporting engineering teams.

This role also oversees the readiness of spare test racks, ensuring they are maintained, functional, and available for rapid swap-in when needed. It includes coordinating any required repairs to return equipment to operational status. Additional responsibilities include cataloging test harness requirements, monitoring inventory and life-usage of harnesses, and ensuring adequate spare coverage.

The engineer is expected to respond quickly to escalations from technicians, providing troubleshooting support and resolving operational issues with the test racks to minimize production downtime.
