As a Applied Scientist II with a focus on Machine Learning in the AR Sortation Planning team, you will play a foundational role in establishing and growing our ML practice to power intelligent robotic workcells. You will design and deploy ML models that optimize sortation efficiency, enhance safety and ergonomics, and enable adaptive decision-making in robotic workflows. You’ll collaborate with robotics, controls, and simulation teams to integrate perception and prediction models into both real-world and simulated systems. Your work will directly impact how our robotic systems operate at scale—delivering measurable improvements in performance, safety, and associate satisfaction.


Key job responsibilities
- Apply analytical and statistical techniques to create scalable solutions for complex business problems.
- Analyze and extract relevant information from large datasets to automate and optimize key operational processes.
- Design, develop, and evaluate machine learning models and algorithms.
- Establish scalable, efficient, and automated pipelines for large-scale data analysis, model development, validation, and deployment.
- Research and implement novel machine learning and statistical methods.
- Collaborate closely with software,solutions and data engineering teams to integrate successful models into production systems at scale.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other scientists on the team.

About the team

We have a talented, innovative and diverse team that works on innovative software driving human and robotic workflows, UI interfaces, AWS services at middle-mile Sortation centers within the Amazon Transportation Services network. We build algorithms to optimize sortation rates, improve safety and ergonomics, delight our associates, build simulations for our new robotic solutions, all while operating at Amazon scale.
