Come work on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Edge and Specialized Hardware test development and automation team. We are a team that owns, develops, and delivers the tools, and infrastructure enabling Edge, Outposts, Specialized Hardware, and Archival Storage platforms.

AWS edge services deliver data processing, analysis, and storage close to your endpoints, allowing you to deploy APIs and tools to locations outside AWS data centers. Outposts is part of the broader AWS Infrastructure Services which owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who builds and keeps the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. Key job responsibilities
You will be part of a team that solves systemic issues, drives changes back into development. You build mechanisms to scale and efficiently operate our infrastructure. As a member of the AWS Hardware engineering organization, you will work with other subject matter experts in compute, memory, storage technologies to develop and deliver the best customer experience in cloud computing.

A day in the life
- Lead the Software Development effort to define and build software and enable tools, according our Software development best practices;
- Work across internal HWEng teams, to ensure we deliver on performance, reliability and operational health of our platforms.
- Work closely with internal customers to identify early any potential problems with on-boarding new servers into their ecosystem.
- Build, manage, and deploy software changes for rapid deployment to org-owned and customer-owned systems.
- Build monitoring tools and metrics to ensure hardware is running properly in both test and production environments.

About the team
The team is comprised of Software Development Engineers and System Design Engineers, all with the common goal of delivering the best specialized server fleet possible to our customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, Python, including object-oriented design
- Experience integrating software applications into automated environments
- Experience developing, deploying, and owning cloud applications
- Familiarity with AWS and EC2, with ideally hands on experience
- Ability to dive deep to analyze complex issues, solve problems, and automate repetitive tasks
- Experience in developing functional design specifications, validation plans and functional test procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication, as well as documentation skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
