DESCRIPTION

SIERRA (Science, Insights, Experience, Research, Reporting & Analytics) has an opportunity for a Senior Manager, Software Development to join the organization. This role will lead a global engineering team with managers and engineers across multiple locales. We’re looking for a senior technical leader who’s motivated by building software that supports other leaders at Amazon. This leader is responsible for hiring, developing, and retaining the best talent – creating durable organizations that celebrate diverse points of view and experiences. You need to operate at both strategic and tactical levels – create and drive a vision across multiple software development teams, lead managers, while still being able to dive deep.

Key job responsibilities
As a Senior Manager, Software Development, you will:
- Drive strategic planning and project execution, recruit, hire, and develop a highly qualified team of software engineers.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Enable your teams to independently innovate and deliver results, while verifying completion/quality.
- Own the inputs and the business outcome through cultivating a culture of relentless auditing and metric monitoring, automatically where possible.
- Balance technical leadership, investment and strong business judgement to make the right decisions about technology choices.
- Collaborate with product and business teams to define and execute the technical roadmap
- Influence senior leaders and partner with teams across Amazon

About the team
This role is within the SIERRA (Science, Insights, Experience, Research, Reporting & Analytics) team. SIERRA is an organization within GTMC that is a horizontal, multi-disciplinary organization whose mission is to be a force multiplier for the broader GTMC organization and our key customer cohorts. We accomplish this by using our expertise in data analytics and science, economics, machine learning (ML), UX, I/O psychology, and engineering to build insights and experiences that raise the bar in understanding and shaping decision making at scale by integrating within and across talent journeys as well as through self-service tools and closed loop mechanisms outside of those journeys. Our portfolio of products spans foundational data sources, metrics, and research through to finished features and products that our end-customers interact with on a daily basis.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of engineering experience
- 5+ years of engineering team management experience
- 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience partnering with product and program management teams
- Experience designing and developing large scale, high-traffic applications

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $198,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $342,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
