DESCRIPTION

The AWS Developer Experience team is looking for an experienced Software Development Manager (SDM) to build and lead an exceptional, high-performing team in designing, developing, and launching a new developer-focused experience. This role will collaborate closely with UX design, product management, research, and the Developer Experience team to innovate and build an experience for the AWS developer community. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical leadership skills, a growth-oriented mindset, and the ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.

As the SDM, you will be responsible for building and leading a team of talented engineers, scoping and delivering large projects end-to-end, and driving initiatives from design to release. Your role will include gathering business and systems requirements from customers, writing technical specifications, managing project schedules, and coordinating implementation efforts across multiple teams. You'll also be expected to provide mentorship to engineers and offer leadership on complex technical issues, drawing from your deep and broad technical expertise.

- Work backwards from customer needs, collaborate with product and other leaders to drive alignment on the product direction and delivery

- Mentor and develop engineers, help define and grow the technical culture, and attract and retain top engineering talent
- Build mechanisms and processes for team efficiency, continuously inventing and simplifying.

About the team
AWS Marketplace is the app store for AWS. The Marketplace enables software sellers to reach all AWS customers, and it enables software buyers to easily discover, purchase and consume cloud software. The team in Austin will be working on strategic initiatives to increase our reach to enterprise buyers. This product strategy will require us to build new services, workflows, and some front-end integration, and of course will include world-class AWS-level operational excellence.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
