We launched Amazon QuickSight, a lighting fast cloud-powered business analytics service that makes it easy for everyone find and share business insights from their data. As more data is being generated and moved to the cloud, Amazon QuickSight is positioned to change how business users interact with data. Regardless of whether the data is in Files (desktop or S3), SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MariaDB), AWS data stores (Athena, RDS, RedShift, Aurora), or SaaS business applications (Salesforce), QuickSight is built to simplify human data interaction and enable our customers to focus running their businesses using those data insights, and not worry about operating any data infrastructure.

The specific role is to build the analytical service QuickSight SPICE. QuickSight SPICE answers the questions customers ask about their data through its high performance analytical engine. As a multi-tenant serverless service, SPICE enables organizations to scale to hundreds of thousands of users without the needs to manage and operate any infrastructure.

You will work on both the architecture and deep algorithmic problems. You will build components that involves deep knowledge on distributed system and database query engine. You will influence our technical direction and help prioritize our product roadmap by working closely with customers. You will partner with talented people and have plenty of opportunities to learn and lead.

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Key job responsibilities
- Translate functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture/design/working software solutions.
- Code and test system components; participate in code and design reviews.
- Demonstrate ownership of end-to-end code quality, system tests, functional tests, and integration.
- Lead/Partner/Collaborate across teams/roles to deliver results.
- Be responsible for overall system architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Mentor other engineers, define the technical culture, and help grow the team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
