The Opportunity:

The Senior Director, Enterprise Risk is a trusted business-enabling partner responsible for leading Symcor’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program and providing independent risk oversight in support of strategic decision-making and long-term value creation. Reporting to the VP, Chief Internal Audit & Risk Officer, this role oversees the design, enhancement, and integration of ERM across the organization, ensuring alignment with Symcor’s risk appetite, strategic objectives, and regulatory obligations.

Partnering closely with senior leadership, the Senior Director advances a risk-aware culture, leads enterprise risk assessments—including new products and opportunities—and delivers clear risk insights to senior management and the Board/Audit Committee. This role is rooted in continuous improvement and integration of ERM principles into Symcor’s overall management system with the Senior Director responsible for ERM and Operational Risk Management (ORM) oversight to ensure management identifies and responds appropriately and effectively to risks and opportunities, in line with Symcor’s appetite for risk. The role also supports evolving an operational risk management framework aligned to regulatory requirements, including the Retail Payments Act (RPAA), and serves as a key liaison with Internal Audit to align audit planning and execution with Symcor’s priority risks.


This is a hybrid role with flexible onsite expectations, typically 2 days per week. New employees are expected to be onsite 2 to 3 times a week during their first three months to support onboarding and collaboration.

About The Role:

  • Advance the ERM program through a planned and systematic approach that takes into consideration Symcor’s evolving business requirements and its ability to absorb change. This includes KRI/KPI development and monitoring, environmental scanning, emerging risk protocol, ERM program training, etc.
  • Elevate Risk Management through integrating and adapting modern risk management practices into Symcor’s management system, especially in key decision-making protocols.
  • Plan, execute, and co-ordinate all key ERM deliverables to meet annual and quarterly program requirements through the Risk Advisory Committee (RAC) and Executive Risk Committee (ERC). Review deliverables and provide final reports to the VP, Chief Internal Audit and Risk Officer for delivery to Audit Committee of Board.
  • Design a standard / repeatable approach and provide risk advisory services that provides management with targeted risk management consulting for major initiatives (new products, major investments, and major process re-engineering). Facilitate risk workshops and provide thought leadership in support of management’s proactive management of key risks and opportunities in support of increasing the likelihood of achieving its strategic / business objectives.
  • Lead the planning and execution of the annual corporate fraud assessment, including draft final report for delivery to the Audit Committee of the Board. Lead the planning and execution of the annual assessment of compliance to Shareholder Banks MSA Schedule 11 (Section M: Fraud Requirements) including delivering reporting to enable the CFO’s annual attestation.
  • Plan, execute, and co-ordinate a comprehensive Enterprise Risk Assessment (ERA) process, on an annual basis, in support of the identification of Symcor’s Priority Risks and reporting of their risk status. Review ERA deliverables and provide final ERA reports to the VP, Chief Internal Audit and Risk Officer for delivery to management risk committees and Audit Committee of Board.
  • Support the development of the annual Internal Audit plan to promote an enterprise risk perspective towards coverage of organizational risks with a focus on higher inherent risks (i.e., Priority Risks).
  • Supporting the development / enhancement of an operational risk management framework and integrating operational risk governance for applicable Retail Payments Act (RPAA) requirements. This role provides independent risk oversight and challenge and does not own or execute operational payment related processes / systems, controls, or incident management.

What You Need to Succeed:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (BSC, MSc, MBA or equivalent). Specialization in business, risk management, finance, or mathematics is ideal. Relevant professional designations required: CPA, CIA, CISA, CRM, and/or others.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in risk management including depth in Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, corporate governance. internal controls frameworks (incl. IT), with particular focus on agile and adaptive risk assessment and risk treatment planning, monitoring, and reporting.

Skill requirements

  • Demonstrated and expert knowledge of risk frameworks, industry dynamics, and market trends in the Financial Sector.
  • Deep understanding of the industry, current risk practices, and strategies.
  • Ability to be able to understand/breakdown complex scenarios…not shying away from ambiguity.
