Your role and responsibilities

As a Senior Research Scientist in Artificial Intelligence, you will lead cutting-edge projects in various AI/ML areas, creating and leveraging AI techniques to solve analytical problems using rigorous and quantitative approaches. You will influence the functional and IBM strategy, having a vision of the functional or unit mission and understanding organizational resources, priorities, needs, and policies. Your primary responsibilities will include: • Lead AI Research Projects: Lead cutting-edge projects in one or more AI/ML areas, such as deep learning, reinforcement learning, and computer vision, creating and leveraging AI techniques to solve analytical problems. • Develop and Embed Algorithms: Develop and prove mathematical properties of algorithms, conduct successful experiments demonstrating these properties, and embed research algorithms in usable systems. • Communicate Research: Communicate research in technical communities through publications in top-tier conferences and journals, such as NIPS, CVPR, and ICML. • Mentor and Collaborate: Mentor multiple people inside and outside the organization in both technical and career capacities, and initiate and build new relationships with technical or business leaders. • Drive Strategic Decisions: Help make complex strategic decisions that require deep technical knowledge, contributing to the overall functional program success with real impact on IBM Products and Services.

Required technical and professional expertise

• Deep Expertise in AI/ML: Proven track record of leading cutting-edge projects in one or more AI/ML areas, such as deep learning, reinforcement learning, and computer vision, with expertise in creating and leveraging AI techniques to solve analytical problems.

• Advanced Algorithm Development: Experience with developing and proving mathematical properties of algorithms, conducting successful experiments demonstrating these properties, and embedding research algorithms in usable systems.

• Technical Community Engagement: Established presence in technical communities through publications in top-tier conferences and journals, such as NIPS, CVPR, and ICML.

• Strategic Leadership: Deep technical knowledge and experience influencing functional and organizational strategy, with the ability to make complex strategic decisions and contribute to overall functional program success.

• Technical Mentorship: Experience mentoring multiple people inside and outside the organization in both technical and career capacities, with the ability to initiate and build new relationships with technical or business leaders.

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Framework Expertise: Experience with frameworks such as Tensorflow, Caffee, Py.Torch, or Theano, with the ability to leverage these frameworks to develop and implement AI techniques.

• Publication Record: Established publication record in top-tier conferences and journals, such as NIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, IJCAI, AAAI, KDD, or arXiv, demonstrating expertise in communicating research to technical communities.

• Neuromorphic Architectures: Knowledge of brain-inspired algorithms and neuromorphic architectures, with the ability to apply this knowledge to develop innovative AI solutions.
