About the position

Duties
As an Economic Development Officer at CanNor, you would be part of a dynamic and hard-working team. You would provide support to important programs and projects, and engage key partners and stakeholders towards sustainable economic development in the region.Working within CanNor’s Operations sector, the selected candidates will have an opportunity to make a significant difference in the economic and social wellbeing of Indigenous peoples and northern residents; by working directly with communities and businesses, and witnessing first-hand the results of government investments.

Established in August 2009, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is the only federal department with an exclusive mandate for the North, and has regional offices in each of the three territories along with a liaison office in Ottawa.CanNor's vision is to develop a strong, diversified, sustainable and dynamic economy for all northerners and Indigenous peoples across Canada's three Territories. Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to fill multiple full-time permanent and temporary positions in Iqaluit, Nunavut. The immediate need is to fill two (2) C0-02 positions on a full-time, permanent basis, one (1) C0-01 position on a full time, temporary basis (one (1) to three (3) year term). Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement who are found qualified in this staffing process will be appointed ahead of other qualified applicants.Qualified candidate pools may be established for both the CO-01 and CO-02 group and levels to fill future vacancies in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Consideration may also be given to providing acting, deployment, secondments/assignments opportunities for existing Government of Canada employees. Interchange Canada opportunities may also be considered.Candidates applying from outside of Iqaluit must be willing to relocate.

CO-02 – Senior Economic Development Officer/ Senior Economic Development Advisor - $ 89, 966 $ to $128, 102 per year.In addition, the selected candidate will also be entitled to:-A northern isolated post allowance (approximately $ 24,819 per year to $ 44,990 per year).-Vacation travel assistance of approximately $ 2, 400 per person twice a year (i.e. for employee and eligible dependents, including spouse/common-law partner).-Federal government housing is also available for this position.Please note that rates and conditions are subject to change.Financial assistance is also available to help with the costs of relocation to Iqaluit.Applicants may wish to review the Relocation Directive for information at http://www.njc-cnm.gc.ca/directive/nrd-drc/index-eng.php.

Medical Clearance: The incumbent and his/her dependents (including incumbent’s spouse or common-law partner and children) may be required to obtain Health Canada medical clearance in accordance with the Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive.

Operational Requirements

Operational Requirements- Willingness and ability to travel in northern Canada and/or to small remote communities in northern Canada.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required.
- The positions to be staffed require on-site work in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
